October New Feathers~ get your engines running!~Holiday Craft Feathers

Here is a preview of the new feathers I have marbled for the winter season and the holidays. They consist of African Grey feathers and cockatoo feathers. These lovely feathers carry good karma all around. They are beautiful and they honor the joyful spirit of the bird (of course they are naturally molted.) When the bird molts them, I collect them and set them on their way to yet another  purpose and another way to enjoy and appreciate these incredible gifts of nature.

Employee Update at QuillnAros

Well, since the summer is ending and a new season is beginning~time to update pictures of my own feathered fiends and sometime contributors (since they lose one feather at a time, they don't contribute much!) They are my inspiration (among other things.)!
My Blue and Gold Quill~age unknown, best guess at least 35

Silvie, the African Grey~ she's a daddy's girl so I am really surprised she didn't take my nose off!
Silvie is at least 45 years old~I adopted her from a rescue

and this is Romeo~he's the youngest, noisiest and mischeivious. Most of the day he's stepping on my
keyboard or playing between my hard drive and keyboard!

Marbling Handmade Paper~Girls Gotta Have Fun!

Anyone who has bought feathers from me knows I love to wrap them with my handmade paper. I was digging thru my papers and I found some rejects from 15 years ago. Rejects? I was experimenting with gelatin sizing because I wanted to be able to write with ink on my papers. What happened was that I didn't dilute the gelatin enough and the back side of the papers ended up looking like wax paper with a crinkling sound (love the sound of the paper!)

Needed to take a couple days break from the feathers, so I decided to marble the paper so I can use it as wrapping paper.

It turned out to be alot of fun~I ended up with beautiful marbled paper and it STILL crinkles. And I have a new supply of paper to wrap the marbled feathers in!

Natural Parrot Feathers=Beautiful Feather Earrings

Today I am a little behind showing the beautiful things other artists are doing with their feathers!
We have had so many storms, floods, heatwaves and in particular power failures, that my computer's brains are a bit scrambled (from the power failures)  and my brains have been scrambled from the heat! I have been looking for the most recent pictures you guys have sent me. If you receive a communication from me asking you to resend pics of your beautiful creations~well blame it on the weather or a senior moment!

These lovely earrings were created from the natural parrot feathers I sell. Very feminine, very sensuous and a lovely earring to wear. You can see other feather earring creations by http://www.amberapeland.etsy.com/, she has a feather jewelry store and would love for you guys to visit!

New Marbled Parrot Feathers!

We have survived the storm that blew through (and thank you everyone for being patient) We were without power for three days, others are not so lucky and they are still without power (my 83 year old mother included). Trees fell all around us, in our area no one was injured. We really lucked out!

SO take a look at the new marbles. I will start listing them in my Etsy store http://www.quillnaros.etsy.com/  over the next week~and I am continuing on with even MORE marbling.

When the Chimera comes knocking at your door (it's already too late!)

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter--bitter," he answered;
"But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart"

description of a chimera~Quote by Stephen Crane

Chimeras are insatiable~they chew you up and spit you out. They look like regular human beings.
I met one. But only one out of three hundred and something wonderful people who have purchased my feathers, it ain't too bad!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Whew! Well cleaning up the garden with all those weeds, the rain, the heat~ took me 1-1/2 weeks longer than I had bargained for. The irony of it is 15 years ago there was a burning pit in the middle of the yard. I excavated it and planted  my lilly perenials. I thought if each year I planted perenials eventually I could get rid of the grass and have a labor free garden.  Oh Yea! WRONG!  Since my marbling session is late in starting~today, the fourth of July, I am ready to occupy the kitchen and get down and dirty!

Another Beautiful Creation with Marbled and Natural Parrot Feathers!

Isn't this absolutely gorgeous? This was made by Desiree Grace @ 3 Gypsies in Davenport Iowa. I am so happy when I can see what artists are creating with my marbled feathers. The lemon yellow feathers are the natural head feathers of the cockatoo and the marbled feather is an originally white cockatoo wing feather.

Hey everyone, keep sending me pics of your creative endeavors~I will immediately show them off in my blog!

Feather Creations!

One of my return (many times) customers has sent me pictures of some of her hair accessories! I am always so happy when that happens. It is amazing how we all think so differently and also it is important to enjoy and observe what other artists are creating. This artist has not yet opened her store, but when she does I will definitely print her store name with the photographs she has sent.

Keep in mind, I may only have 12 followers~but actually to me it's 12 million and I would like to continue gaining more peeps who use and enjoy my marbled feathers. Also within the week~I am going to start offering special coupons for my store. Stay tuned! And thank you all for following me...

New Feather Notecard

I scanned the actual marbled feathers on my printer and I found a quote I liked. This is the 5th one in the feather notecard series. I wonder if anyone is physically sending cards thru the mail or if everything is e-mail and texting? I hope not!

Handwriting was my favorite subject in school., I've had the same fountain pen for many years.

Moody Blues and an Eggbound Blue and Gold Macaw

My  beautiful Blue and Gold (Quill) for the second time in 15 years became eggbound and to make a long  story short, she spent five days at the vet hospital in hopes of laying that egg (she is at least 40 and that is way too old) and surgery is not the way to go. I spent 5 days driving a three hour round trip to see her and spending two hours with her evey day so she didn't feel that mommy abandoned her. My wonderful avian vet was able to collapse the egg and not do any surgery. He did the same thing 15 years ago-it is tricky~but he is a wonderful bird vet, I am lucky. So my ole girl, who should be thru her nesting practices will be here another 50 years!(or at least another decade!)

My new endeavor is called the Moody Blues (and yes that tells how old I am) sooooooo here goes

I was doing some research and I discovered another brand of marbling paints. I ordered their starter kit.
So much of marbling is serendipity. The weather, the water, how well you mix the size, what you mix it with.
It can be completely frustrating~ but I have done platinum printing and Japanese papermaking and it is the same thing. Very dependant upon conditions, weather or otherwise!  Why? I know the personalities of the African Grey Parrot and the Cockatoo.  They are not just "white and gray". They are incredible parrots, that deserve to have their personalities displayed in color. NOT WORDS.......

In Color!
